The Hillsboro High School spring sports season kick into full gear this week with all five team competing.
However, two seasons began this past week with the Trojan tennis squad competing Thursday in the Conway Springs invitational and the baseball team playing Friday at Wichita Collegaite.
A second-place overall finish and a second-place medal earned by number one doubles players Taylor Hagen and Clay Shewey made for a good tennis season-opener.
“It was a good start to the season as all guys won a match,” head coach Stuart Holmes said. “Taylor and Clay looked promising.”
On the baseball diamond the Trojans played a much-improved Collegiate team and fell 11-5 and 6-5 in a doubleheader.
HHS was down from the start in game one, trailing 9-2 after three innings before losing by six.
Daniel Jost was hot at the plate for the Trojans going 3-4 with a single, double, and triple.
In game two, HHS scored a run in the top of the seventh to cut the lead to one, but its rally was stopped short.
On the horizon for the Trojans teams is a busy Thursday with all five programs competing.
Tuesday also will be packed with baseball, softball, and track and field in action.
