HHS teacher wins FCCLA award

Hillsboro High School Family and Consumer Science teacher Monica Leihy won the Family Career and Community Leaders of America adviser of the year award for District G.
District G encompasses approximately 20 schools, including schools in Salina and Pratt.
Leihy will receive the award Monday at the FCCLA State Meeting in Wichita.
Although Leihy has been an FCCLA adviser for 17 years at HHS, Leihy’s performance as an adviser this year stood out because HHS hosted the district and state conferences this past fall and the state knowledge bowl competition in February.
“It’s been a busy year,” Leihy said.
The HHS knowledge bowl team has also qualified for the national competition July in Anaheim, Calif.
“I’m really proud of our knowledge bowl team,” Leihy said.
The Hillsboro FCCLA team has 18 members and organizes fundraisers and community events throughout the year.
“It’s an honor to be nominated by your peers,” Leihy said.
