HHS tennis finishes 3rd

The Hillsboro High School tennis team had two second-place finishes in its eight-team tournament Thursday in Hillsboro. The Trojans finished third as a team.

Grant Shewey lost in the championship round to Kyle Burger of Conway Springs, 8-7, and the Hillsboro No. 1 doubles team of Taylor Hagen and Jared Hamm lost, 8-5, to the team from Hutch Trinity.

Sam Bookless also placed fourth in No. 2 singles by defeating Junior Skeen of Chapman in the first round, 8-4.

Smoky Valley

Shewey also won two matches April 6 at Smoky Valley. He defeated Jakob Whitson, of Pratt, 8-4 and Alex Harris, of Abilene, 8-5. Hagen and Hamm won matches against teams from Wichita Collegiate and Abilene. Jesse Allen and Harry Faber won their last two matches in the No. 2 bracket, defeating teams from Concordia and Pratt.
