HHS tennis lineup taking shape
The lineup for league and sub-state meets took a step toward finalization when Hillsboro High School girls tennis played well at Hesston on Sept. 15.
No. 1 singles player Becky Faber placed third with a 2-1 record. She won matches against Kelsey Sanborn, of Abilene, and Bridget Winter, of Buhler. Her loss was against Janel Prather, of Sterling.
Emma Heyen placed fifth in No. 2 singles. She defeated Taylor Major-Dane, of Buhler, and Cameron Hargrave, of Trinity Academy. She lost to Samantha Murphy in a tiebreaker.
Courtney Weber and Elise Heyen placed fifth in No. 1 doubles with a 2-1 record. They defeated Sterling and Trinity Academy, but lost to Abilene.
No. 2 doubles team Aubrey Meier and Hayley Pankratz finished with a 1-2 record. They defeated Buhler, but lost to Haven and Trinity Academy.
“Obviously, Becky continues to play well at No. 1 singles,” Coach Bob Woelk said. He said he planned to mix things up Tuesday at Wichita Collegiate, but plans to use this lineup for league and sub-state.
The Trojans stay at home for their last regular season meet, starting 3:30 p.m. Thursday.
