HHS tennis struggles at regionals
Hillsboro High School girls tennis finished a disappointing 0-4 at regionals Friday in Hillsboro, but the team will return intact in 2010.
Becky Faber was defeated in the first round, 6-3, 0-6, 10-6. Emma Heyen had a bye in the first round, but lost in the second round, 6-3, 6-0.
Elise Heyen and Courtney Weber received a first-round bye before falling, 6-2, 6-4. Aubrey Meier and Hayley Pankratz had a bye in the first round, but lost in the second round, 6-0, 6-0.
“We thought Becky would take the momentum from her 6-0 second set into the super tiebreaker, but it didn’t work out that way,” Coach Bob Woelk said.
“We came away from the day determined to play more tennis and get better for next season, when five out of six returners will be seniors,” he said. “It was a disappointing day, to be sure, but not entirely unexpected as we had arguably the toughest regional in the state.”
