Hiebert leads Goessel golf

Senior Lucas Hiebert shot a career-best 94 at Hesston to take second in the Wheat State and Heart of the Plains League Challenge.

“I chipped better than usual and was able to only putt once on several holes which helped my score a lot,” Hiebert said.

Lawton Makovec, 104, and Rhett Makovec, 105, finished seventh and eighth respectively. Jordan Schmucker contributed to the team score with a 124 to place 13th.

Goessel won the event by one stroke over Pretty Prairie. Luke Unruh and Kellen Froese filled out the team for the Bluebirds, who finished with a team score of 427.

Goessel hosted the 1A regional golf tournament at Hesston Monday. Eight schools participated with the top three teams moving on to the state golf tournament in Seneca on May 26.
