Staff writer

The Goessel girls’ track team finished fifth out of 14 schools at Norwich on a windy Friday night.

Brittney Hiebert set a meet record in the 800 meters, winning with a time of 2 minutes, 33.15 seconds, and she also won the 1,600 in 5:39.70.

Olivia Duerksen took first in high jump at 4 feet, 8 inches, and placed sixth in long jump.

Erin Brubaker earned points in two events as she finished sixth in both the 100 hurdles and the 300 hurdles. Rachel Manis finished fourth in the 1,600, Jennifer Meysing earned sixth place in the 3,200 meter race, Coral Mitchell got fifth in pole vault, and Lauren Rymill finished sixth in the 800. In spite of the wind, the 4x400 relay earned second place and the 4x100 relay finished sixth.

The Goessel boys won two events, but finished ninth as a team. Zach Wiens won the 110 hurdles in 15.81, and the 300 hurdles in 45.80, his best times of the season in both events. Josh Schmidt placed sixth in long jump and Dominik Rebohlz finished sixth in the 3,200.

The boys placed fourth in the 4x100 relay and fifth in the 4x400 relay.

“It was a very windy day but we had some good times,” coach Curtis Guhr said.

The Bluebirds compete at their home track on Tuesday in a meet hosted by Canton-Galva.
