Staff writer

In the process for qualifying for the state track meet, Brittney Hiebert set a school record in the 1,600 meter run Friday.

She finished in second place at the regional meet. Her new record rests at 5 minutes and 31.35 seconds, and eclipses the previous record by less than one second.

Finishing fourth in the 400 and fourth in the 800, Hiebert heads to the state meet in three individual events.

Goessel’s 4 x 800-relay team took first place. Running the race in 11:12.35, the new combination of Rachel Manis, Julia Nightengale, Jennifer Meysing, and Lauren Rymill punched its ticket to state with a season-best time.

Erin Brubaker hit her stride in the 300-meter hurdles with a season best of 53.91 seconds. Her fourth-place finish will carry her to state.

Jennifer Meysing also qualified in the 3,200 with a fourth-place finish.

Olivia Duerksen picked regionals for her best leap of the season, clearing 5 feet in the high jump for third place.

Aleena Cook also will run next weekend in the 200 as she finished fourth at regionals.

Manis earned a fifth-place finish in the 1,600. The 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams each finished in sixth place. The Goessel girls’ team finished sixth out of 20 schools at regionals.

The state meet will be Friday and Saturday at Cessna Stadium in Wichita
