In the Marion County Fair’s parade July 29th, community members and Hillsboro High School students rode on a float together to form a community band for the parade.
The reasoning behind involving community members, conductor Bruce Major said, is because of the high school members’ prior commitments.
“The band is pretty small,” Major said, “and we’d have difficulty marching, especially with students involved in other aspects of the parade, such as swim team or 4-H. It’s also a good way to involve the community in supporting the band.”
The community band rode on a trailer provided by Jost Fabricating.
High school band members who played included Amanda Bartel, Breanna Dittert, Abby Driggers, Eva Franz, Shelby Johnson, and Grace Major.
Community members were Paul Epp, Jessica Fine, Steve Hanneman, Kennedy Klein, Charlie Major, Randy Stepanek, Gregg Walker, and Joey Walter.
“Thank you to all who performed with and/or supported the Hillsboro High School and community band,” Major said, “and thanks to all the musicians for contributing their time, energy, and talent to provide a musical backdrop for the parade.”
