Hillsboro accept bids for school projects

Staff writer

Three projects are expected to begin this summer at Hillsboro Schools.

School board members approved bids Monday for replacement of windows in the 1938 high school building, repair of ceilings and walls as part of the window work, replacement of runways for events at Joel Wiens Stadium, and the hiring of a construction manager for the window work.

“We had to make sure we got things ordered in time to get them by summertime,” superintendent Clint Corby said of new windows.

Window replacement can expose many unanticipated problems.

“There’s actually a whole lot to what goes on,” Corby said. “You get into old buildings, you can run into all kinds of things.”

The district plans an array of other infrastructure work, including air conditioning, roofing, painting, and security improvements.

Bids approved include:

  • $475,175 from Higgins Group Inc. for window replacement.
  • $41,112 from DCS Services for construction management on window work.
  • $35,950 from Higgins Group for ceiling and wall repair.
  • Up to $60,000 to Tabor College for half the cost of runway replacement at Joel Wiens Stadium.
