The City of Hillsboro has been selected as a grant recipient in Kansas Department of Transportation’s 2012 Kansas Airport Improvement Program.
The city had applied for a 90 percent grant for an airport development plan. The amount of the grant hasn’t been announced, City Administrator Larry Paine said May 25.
The plan will address three broad topics. The first topic is physical improvements — what facilities or equipment are lacking? The plan will address whether the city needs to add or replace hangars, electronics, or other capital improvements.
The second topic of the plan will be use and services — how can flights into and from Hillsboro be improved? The final topic of the plan will be economic development — how can the city encourage people to fly to town to do business?
Engineering firm EBH & Associates, P.A., will conduct the study and develop the plan. The company has a Hillsboro office and has been involved with water, sewer, streets, and sidewalk projects in the city.
