Hillsboro girls' tennis returns nine players

Staff writer

Coach Erin Hein is pleased with her team this year with 14 girls participating and nine returning from last year.

“Four of the nine are letter winners and two of them qualified for state,” Hein said.

Senior Cheyenne Bernhard and sophomore Kyla Isaac placed in the top 16 last year.

Hein’s goal is to help members grow in their abilities so she can send more teams to state competition.

“We have a wide range of players,” she said. “Each is growing individually and as part of the team and continue to improve.”

The team hasn’t been impacted by the new Kansas law that teams can’t have more than one practice a day.

“We’ve always had one practice a day, so it really doesn’t effect us,” Hein said.

The team focuses on different things every day starting with running warm-ups and stretching before they go into drills and playing.

Hein grew up around tennis. Her mother was her high school tennis coach and her uncle coached her at Tabor. This is her second year coaching.

The Hillsboro tennis team will host a tournament Tuesday.
