Hillsboro golfers win Halstead tournament
Hillsboro takes 4th at county golf tournament and 3rd league
Coming off a team win at Wedgewood golf course in Halstead on May 2 and fourth of nine teams Friday at the Marion County golf tournament, Hillsboro High School golfers placed third at Central Kansas League on Tuesday in Kingman.
Scoring a 343, the Trojans staunchly defeated seven other teams to emerge victorious at Halstead, where Eliot Ollenburger shot an 83 to place second of 46 golfers. Elias Werth was fourth with an 85, Carson Herbel was fifth with an 87, Caroline Roth was sixth with an 88, and Colin Settle and Joe Knoll tied for 13th, each logging 98s.
In the first half of the Marion County tournament, the Trojans shot a 371 at Marion Country Club. They went on to score a 363 at Hillsboro Municipal Golf Course to finish with a 734 for 36 holes, 32 strokes shy of Sterling’s third place finish.
Individually, Roth placed 12the of 54 golfers with a 36-hole score of 180, Ollenburger was 15th at 181, Settle was 23rd with a 186, Herbel was 24th with a 187, Werth was 29th with a 194, and Knoll was 34th.
In league competition, the Trojans scored a 364 to finish just 18 strokes shy of second place finisher Hesston on Tuesday.
Individually, Ollenburger placed 7th with an 88, Roth took 9th with a 90,Werth came in 12th at a 92, while Herbel, Settle, and Knoll tied for 17th, each logging 94s.
