Hillsboro grapplers eighth at Ellis
Hillsboro’s wrestling team made a long trip west Friday to compete at the Ellis Railer scramble tournament, and finished eighth out 13 teams in a tournament featuring three of Class 3-2-1A’s top teams.
Hillsboro had six of its 10 competitors finish in the top six in its first real challenge of this year’s season.
Andre Patton and Tristan Rathbone spearheaded the Trojans, each posting 4-1 finishes for second place.
Garrett Helmer and Jordan Bachman each took third, going 3-2 for the night.
Ryder Norstrom was fourth at 4-1 and Deon Weeks was sixth, going 2-3.
“This was the first true test this season for our young team,” coach Scott O’Hare said. “It is a very competitive tournament out at Ellis which gave the guys a great opportunity for a lot of quality competition and experience.
Other Trojans competing were Charlie Major (0-4), Eli Dalke (1-2), and Isaiah Patton (0-4).
Lane Rogers went 2-3 and managed a seventh-place finish.
The Trojans close out the year Friday with the Marion County duals taking place at both Hillsboro’s and Marion’s gym. Action is set to begin at both places at 3 p.m.
