A look back

Hillsboro had a Miss Kansas Day

Fifty years ago, Mayor Levi T. Buller of Hillsboro proclaimed July 21, 1969, as Miss Kansas Day in Hillsboro. On that day, there was a parade featuring the newly crowned Miss Kansas, Margo Schroeder, her relatives and friends.

She is the daughter of the late Dean Schroeders.

The Hillsboro Star-Journal recorded the event.

The former Miss Kansas is 68 years old, married, and lives in Overland Park.

She entered and won the Marion County Scholarship Pageant as a business education student at Wichita State University.

She then went on to win the Miss Kansas Scholarship Pageant at Pratt and participated in the Miss America Pageant in Atlantic City.

She was one of Hillsboro’s best-known citizens as she officiated at many functions across the state from September 1969 to September 1970.
