HILLSBORO: Hillsboro tennis returns four starters
Staff writer
Hillsboro tennis coach Bob Woelk doesn’t know who will play doubles and who will play singles, but he does know his top six have improved.
Last season, four of his starters were freshman. Those freshmen have made strides during the offseason, and Woelk expects their time and effort to pay off.
“We will continue to learn and gain experience,” Woelk said. “Several players were involved in summer tournaments and took lessons last summer.”
Sophomores Noah Bartel, Aidan Unruh, Ethan Plenert, and Henry Hein all gained varsity experience last season.
Bartel and Unruh played doubles as did Hein and Plenert. But Woelk is keeping his options open heading into the season.
“We are still working out who will play singles and doubles and with what partners,” he said. “I look forward to seeing what these guys are capable of.”
Senior Josiah Jost and sophomore Bryce Rader will fill out the varsity lineup. Rader played junior varsity last year. Jost is making his debut for Hillsboro tennis.
The Trojans opened the season today at Salina Sacred Heart.
