Hillsboro hosts chess tournament

Hillsboro High School Chess Guild hosted a KSCA-sanctioned chess tournament Saturday.

The tournament included 19 teams, grades K-12, from across Kansas.

Garden City won first place in the high school division. HHS placed fourth. Justin King, of HHS, placed seventh individually.

First place in the middle school division was Valley Center. Hillsboro Middle School placed third. Individuals in the top 20 were Daniel Gray, seventh, and Jacob Humber, 17th.

Hillsboro Elementary School placed second in the elementary division, behind Sunrise Christian Academy. Individuals in the top 20 were Ben Koop, eighth; Reece Berens, 10th; Jordan Fryover, 15th; Matthew Denholm, 16th; Mary Leihy, 17th; and Dakota Klein, 20th.
