Hillsboro musicians compete at state, league

Hillsboro High School musicians performed at state festivals recently. Kansas State High School Activities Association state large group music festival was April 13 at Marion High School, and the state soloist and small ensemble festival was Saturday at Southeast of Saline High School.

HHS band received a I rating and two II ratings. A I rating is the highest rating awarded.

Ensembles and soloists receiving I ratings were: Spirit ‘N’ Celebration; Spirit ‘N’ Celebration women; Spirit ‘N’ Celebration men; Trumpet Trio; singers Dylan Delk, Harry Faber, Elise Heyen, Jacob Humber, Olivia Kliewer, Luke Moore, Daniel Nelson, and Hayley Pankratz; and trumpeter Matthew Wiebe.

Girls Ensemble and singers Tyler Funk, Daniel Kenney, and Matthew Wiebe received II ratings.

Middle school band

Hillsboro Middle School band performed in the Central Kansas League festival March 7 at Hesston.

The band received one I rating and two II ratings.

Flute ensemble 2, clarinet ensemble, saxophone ensemble, percussion ensemble, and soloists Kennedy Klein, Claire Heyen, SaRae Roberts, and Daniele Melton each received a I rating.

Flute ensemble 1 and soloists Reece Berens, Jordan Fryhover, and Steven Brazil received II ratings. Brass ensemble received a III rating.

Middle school choir

HMS choir performed in the Central Kansas League festival April 26 at HHS. The choir received two I ratings and one II rating.

Mixed choir 1, eighth-grade girls, and soloists Caleb Bettles, Stephen Brazil, David Dick, Philip Ediger, Claire Heyen, Riley Loewen, Daniele Melton, Dylan Nelson, and Graham Pankratz each received a I rating.

Seventh-grade boys, seventh-grade girls, eighth-grade boys, mixed choir 2, mixed choir 3, and soloists Jordan Fryhover, Alex Ratzlaff, and SaRae Roberts received II ratings.
