Hillsboro narrows wish list

Staff writer

Hillsboro city council members Tuesday reviewed a prioritized list of equipment city administrator Matt Stiles said two weeks ago should be considered for replacement.

He recommended all be obtained on a lease-purchase.

A Ventrac tractor mower for the golf course is available now for $43,811.

A used trash truck could be purchased for $170,000. The city’s oldest trash truck could be sold and another back-up truck could placed in reserve, he said.

A used tandem axel dump truck for snow removal could be purchased for $125,000, he said. It would replace a dump truck whose motor “cratered” last year.

The city also needs a sprayer for golf and recreation., he said If a sprayer and utility vehicle were ordered now, he said, the earliest it could arrive would be November.

He also recommended a single-axle dump truck for snow removal, although he said that piece of equipment could wait until next year.

Council members instructed him to gather further information on prices and availability for their next meeting.

The council also heard Tuesday from Tabor college president David Janzen, who talked about the college’s Central Kansas Center for Entrepreneurship.
