Hillsboro Police Department: A rash of thefts occur on college campus

Law enforcement officials have been busy investigating a series of thefts at Tabor College. The items taken have included a snake, video game player, and ethanol.

Sept. 21: An individual was arrested on an outstanding warrant. A camper hook-up was provided at Memorial Park. Sometime between Sept. 19 and Sept. 21, someone entered a residence in the 400 block of B Street and removed several firearms. The firearms were part of a divorce settlement and were to be given to the owner’s wife Sept. 21. A child was locked out of his residence in the 300 block of South Birch Street; the incident was reported to social services.

Sept. 22: An unattended infant was reported in a car at Hillsboro Elementary School. A harassment complaint was filed in the 300 block of West D Street. Marion County Sheriff’s Department received assistance with an injury accident. Assistance was provided to McPherson Police Department with an investigation. A parent received assistance with an problematic child. A complaint of individuals loitering in the 500 block of East D Street was reported.

Sept. 23: An individual in the 500 block of South Adams Street reported the unauthorized electronic withdrawal of money from his checking account. SRS received assistance with an investigation. A welfare check was provided in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street. Three adults were involved in a domestic disturbance in the 400 block of South Main Street; one subject was removed from the premises. A hitchhiker was checked on U.S.-56. A civil stand-by was provided in the 400 block of South Main Street. A noise complaint was filed in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street.

Sept. 24: A dog complaint was filed in the 100 block of South Date Street. A possible fire was reported on 190th Road near the city limits. Suspicious people were checked in the 200 block of North Main Street. A civil dispute between two juveniles was filed in the 300 block of North Birch Street. A possible overdose was reported in the 400 block of North Ash Street.

Sept. 25: Officers assisted with a civil property dispute. Topeka Police Department received assistance with an investigation. Assistance was provided to court services officers. A parking complaint was filed in the 800 block of East C Street. A welfare check was provided in the 600 block of East C Street. A suspicious vehicle was reported at Tabor College.

Sept. 26: An individual in the 100 block of South Birch Street reported that her garage door was damaged sometime between Sept. 21 and Sept. 26, when someone tried to forcibly enter it; entry was not gained and nothing was missing; damages were estimated at $125. A tenant/landlord dispute was reported in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street. An individual reported a vagrant who had been evicted from their residence. An emergency message was delivered in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street. A motorist received assistance in the 400 block of North Ash Street. An individual reported that a snake had been stolen from a classroom at Tabor College in the 400 block of South Jefferson. A video game player and games were reportedly stolen from a Tabor College classroom in the 400 block of South Jefferson. Items that were taken in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street were later recovered.

Sept. 27: A property dispute was reported in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street. An animal welfare check was provided in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street.

Sept. 28: An animal cruelty complaint was made in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street. A welfare check was provided in the 300 block of South Main Street. An individual reported the theft of ethanol and vandalism to a classroom in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street on Tabor College campus; the loss was estimated at $91. Suspicious activity was checked at Tabor Field.

Sept. 29: A damage complaint in the 200 block of South Cedar Street was determined to be a civil matter. A business located in Hillsboro Industrial Park reported the theft of numerous wood pallets. A welfare check was provided in the 100 block of South Birch Street. An individual reported that several juveniles in a vehicle were harassing pedestrians. A motorist received assistance in the 400 block of North Ash Street. A prowler complaint was filed in the 100 block of South Birch Street.

Sept. 30: A child welfare check was provided in the 200 block of East First Street. SRS received assistance with an investigation. An individual was fingerprinted for employment purposes. An individual reported the theft of a wallet and credit cards from a dormitory room in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street; one of the cards later was used at a local convenience store; the loss was estimated at $209. Parking complaints were filed in the 800 block of East C Street, the 100 block of South Jefferson Street, and the 500 block of East C Street.

Oct. 1: The K-9 unit searched schools. A dog complaint was filed at D and Ash streets. A harassment complaint was made in the 200 block of North Jefferson Street. A motorist received assistance in the 400 block of North Ash Street. A welfare concern on Willow Road was determined to be a civil matter. A welfare check was provided in the 300 block of South Ash Street.

Thursday: A peddler’s license was provided at city hall. An individual left a business without paying for service in the 100 block of West D Street. A dog complaint was filed in the 200 block of North Main Street. An individual was fingerprinted for employment purposes. An individual reported his/her bicycle was stolen in the 400 block of South Jefferson Street. A parking complaint was made in the 100 block of South Date Street.

Friday: Officers arrested an individual in the 200 block of South Kennedy Street on outstanding warrants. Assistance was provided for Hillsboro High School homecoming parade. An individual was fingerprinted for employment purposes. Hillsboro City Council packets were delivered. EMS received assistance with a call at HHS.

Saturday: A parking complaint was filed in the 400 block of South Adams Street. EMS received assistance with a call on Willow Road. A motorist received assistance in the 400 block of North Ash Street. Charges are pending following a domestic disturbance in the 300 block of North Washington Street.
