Hillsboro receives Ripken tourney
Staff writer
Hillsboro will host the Cal Ripken state baseball tournament for 12 year olds on July 14 through 19.
Hillsboro Recreation Director Doug Sisk asked the Babe Ruth state commission what age group they wanted Hillsboro to host.
Hillsboro was then put into a competition with a few other towns for the 12-year-old, 70-foot base path division, for which they came out on top.
Eight teams from around Kansas will compete in the tournament. The Cottonwood League, of which Hillsboro is a part, will provide a team of all-stars from teams around Marion County to play as the host team for the tournament.
Hillsboro hosted a state tournament two years ago.
“I just want to represent our community and our sports complex” Sisk said.
