Hillsboro runner snags medal at state race

Hillsboro cross-country sent three runners to Saturday’s state meet at Wamego, and all delivered strong performances.

Emersyn Funk was the Trojans’ top runner, earning a medal thanks to her 16th-place finish. She chose the right place to run her fastest race of the year, coming in at 21:11.29.

Hillsboro sent Tristan Reed and Caleb Diener for the boys race, and while they didn’t place as highly as Funk, both cleared 19 minutes in the season’s final race. Reed finished 22nd with an 18:15.2, and Diener came in at 18:56.95, good for 59th place.

All three will look to reprise their roles next year, as Funk is a junior, and the other two will be seniors.
