Hillsboro softball picks up 4 wins

Slow offensive starts against Sterling and Larned didn’t deter the Hillsboro softball team from winning doubleheaders against each.

The Trojans’ road trip to Larned on April 21 tested the their defensive mettle, as both contests were close.

Hillsboro scored 1 run in the first inning of the opener, then just one more in the fifth. But Julie Sinclair pitched a shutout, as the Trojans won 2-0.

Hillsboro led 5-1 going into the bottom of the fifth, but Larned rallied for 3 runs. Both teams failed to score in the final two innings, with Allison Weber picking up the 5-4 win for the Trojans.

Hillsboro’s bats came back to life in Friday’s games against Sterling. In 11 innings across two games the Trojans slapped 26 hits and scored 22 runs.

Nine runs in the final three innings of game 1 gave Hillsboro and Weber a 12-6 win, and Sinclair pitched five innings of shutout ball for a 10-0 win in the second game.
