Hillsboro Sports Complex home to three new score boxes

Staff writer

With spring quickly approaching comes the promise for warmer weather and the beginning of softball and baseball season.

Hillsboro Sports Complex is now home to three new score boxes, compliments of the Hillsboro Recreation Commission.

“We have been looking to do some improvements at the sports complex slowly,” said HRC president Doug Sisk. “Last year we put a maroon tin shade up over the home side of Lions Field. When we were doing that I realized that the score boxes needed some work, so we started looking into getting some nice press boxes.”

HRC hired Spring Branch Construction, a local company, for the project.

The score boxes are three different colors, maroon, green, and blue, to assist in identifying the fields for those who aren’t aware of the different names. Sisk says once the company got started it only took them three or four weeks to complete the project. Hillsboro city staff helped with installation.

Sisk says the HRC is still attempting to hire umpires, concession stand workers, and people to help prep the fields.

Aside from baseball and softball options for ages 3 and up, summer activities sponsored by the commission include swim team, drama camp, golf camp, baseball clinic, a pitch-hit-run event, a volleyball camp and league, and more.

The brochure for activities offered throughout the summer went out Thursday, and was sent out through the Hillsboro schools. For anyone interested in receiving one or registering for events, they can sign up on the website, https://hillsboroks.recdesk.com/Community/Home.
