Hillsboro tops swim league

Marion 5th, Peabody 8th

Staff writer

Hillsboro Swim Team’s first place finish Saturday in the Mid-Kansas League meet marked the first time the team won league in 15 years, coach Stephanie Moss said.

“There’s a new kid on the block, and it’s Hillsboro Swim Team,” she said.

After placing second last week in a meet at Lindsborg, Hillsboro rebounded at home to win the nine-team meet.

“(Lindsborg) beat us quite handily last week,” Moss said. “We were missing a lot of swimmers.”

Even though Hillsboro still had some swimmers missing — a few Moss said would have placed in the top five of their events —the 57 that competed scored 863 points, 108 ahead of second-place Lindsborg.

“With the point margin we flat-out earned it,” she said. “We were not a complete team, but that’s swim team.”

Marion Swim Team placed fifth at the meet with 335, and the Peabody Super Swimmers scored 195 for eighth.
