Shaw notches shot put victory
The Hillsboro High School track teams competed Thursday at the Hesston Invitational.
The boys’ team had more success, finishing seventh out of 10 schools with 43 points, while the girls’ 28 points left them in ninth.
Leading all classes in Kansas in shot put, Wes Shaw did it again, beating Marion’s Tyler Palic 53 feet, 9 inches to 51’5”.
Shaw finished second in discus, throwing 155’ 2”.
Kaden Ward had a successful day, picking up second- and third-place medals in pole vault and high jump, respectively.
Ward’s high jump of six feet finished in a three-way with Hesston’s runner-up Reese Nebel and Cheney’s David Peters.
It was also a three-way tie for second in pole vault, with Ward’s jump of 12’ 6” equaled by Smoky Valley’s Andrew Peters, and Halstead’s Gage Larson.
In girls’ action, Addie Berens posted the best finish for Hillsboro, throwing a second-place 120’ 9” in the javelin, 10’ 3” behind Cheney champion Kadie Smith.
