Hillsboro track teams finish 1st, 2nd
The Hillsboro High School girls team finished first April 12 at the Canton-Galva track meet.
Callie Serene won the 800-meter run with a time of 2 minutes, 41.72 seconds and the 1600 with a time of 6:02. She was also part of the second-place 4x400 relay team with Peyton Loewen, Erika Just, and Heather Mayfield that ran a time of 4:56.88.
Lindsey Brazil finished second in the long jump with a leap of 13 feet, 3.75 inches. She also finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 27-10.5.
Ashley Bartel finished third in the 300 hurdles with a time of 1:01.50. She placed second in the pole vault with a jump of 7-0. She was also part of the first place 4x100 relay team with Heather Mayfield, Maci Kelsey, and Karina Torres that ran a time of 56.33.
Torres finished second in the 200 with a time of 29.63. She also finished third in the long jump, 12-8.75, ahead of fourth-place teammate Rhonda Rogers, 11-7.25.
Kelsey finished second in the 200 with a time of 30.22 and fifth in the 100, 14.41.
Kiara Espada finished second in the discus with a throw of 85-4, second in the shot put with a throw of 27-7.5, and third in the javelin with a throw of 76-10.
Erin Wiebe finished fourth in the 1600, 6:52, and the 800, 3:15.03.
Rachel Schneider finished sixth in the 100 hurdles, 24.31.
Taylor Vogt finished sixth in the discus, 75-6.
The Trojan boys team finished second.
Hillsboro took the top three spots in the 1600. Joel Allen won the event with a time of 4:51, Josh Richert finished second with a time of 5:12.33, and Justin King finished third with a time of 5:12.56.
The Trojans also took the top four spots in the 800. Bret Mueller finished first with a time of 2:09.19, King placed second with a time of 2:14.62, Richert placed third with a time of 2:15.97, and Tyler Proffitt finished fourth with a time of 2:17.25.
Allen also won the 3200 with a time of 10:13.65 and he was part of the second-place 4x400 relay team with Avery Franz, King, and Mueller.
Mueller, Franz, Richert, and Mueller also made up the first-place 4x800 relay team that ran a time of 9:08.56.
Franz also finished fifth in the triple jump with a leap of 37-5.
Aaron Slater won the shot put with a throw of 37-6.
Jesse Brown won the high jump with a leap of 5-6. He was also sixth in the javelin with a throw of 110-2.
Jordan Riggs won the javelin with a throw of 123-1.
Caleb Hilliard placed fourth in the triple jump, 37-5, and fifth in the javelin, 123-1. Hilliard was also part of the second-place 4x100 relay team with Tanner Sechrist, Ty Carey, and Shaq Thiessen that ran a time of 3:45.02.
Thiessen also finished third in the long jump with a leap of 19-3.
Carey placed third in the 110 hurdles with a time of 19.25 and finished fourth in the 300 hurdles, 50.60, ahead of fifth-place teammate Sechrist, 51.41.
