Senior and sophomore, lone returners for Hillsboro
For the past three years, Hillsboro High School girls’ tennis coach Bob Woelk has been playing an understudy to former Lady Trojan coach Lynn Wiebe.
However, Wiebe decided to step down, leaving Woelk the new leader.
Unluckily for Woelk, he doesn’t get a lot of experience back for his debut with only a sophomore and a senior.
That’s better than having an entirely new team, though.
Other than senior Kelsey Bartel and sophomore Becky Faber, there’s not much varsity experience, and a huge race for four spots on the varsity roster is on.
The good news is Woelk’s not a total stranger to some of the players with his junior varsity coaching experience.
Other members of the team are Trisha Pankratz, Ashlyn Simmons, Hayley Pankratz, Aubrey Meier, Emma and Elise Heyen, Rachel McKenzie, and Calli Nickel.
If you’re a young team looking for good, future experience, the Mid-Central Athletics Association conference is the right place to be.
Nobody has dominated Kansas tennis quite like Wichita Collegiate, Hesston, and Smoky Valley, as each have enjoyed its share of success on the court.
The Trojans play host to two meets this year along with the Oct. 4 league meet.
