Hillsboro volleyball 2nd at substate

Hillsboro volleyball capped its season with a strong finish Saturday at Leon-Bluestem.

The Trojans finished 4-5 in the Central Kansas League, but made it as far as Saturday’s substate championship.

Hillsboro started the day with a straight-set win over Chase County, 25-13, 25-15.

The Trojans followed with another two-set win in the semifinal, besting West Elk, 25-17, 25-18.

Hillsboro stayed close in the championship, but didn’t have enough juice to beat Belle Plaine in a three-set match. The Trojans took the first set 26-24, before dropping the next two sets 25-23, 25-20.

The Trojans built momentum throughout the year, even managing to take third at their home tournament recently.

Hillsboro finished the season 21–19 overall.

The team returns its core next fall, in the hopes of continuing to gain momentum and experience.
