Hillsboro woman dies in car wreck
Winter weather causing ice-covered roads was the cause of numerous accidents Friday afternoon including a crash that claimed the life of a Hillsboro woman.
Sharon Chamberlain, 58, died at the scene when she was a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet Prism, driven by her husband, Donald Chamberlain, 61, at approximately 1:27 p.m. Friday on Indigo Road near 120th, south of Hillsboro.
The crash occurred when a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer, driven by Chelsea Reiswig, 23, Hillsboro, was southbound on Indigo Road, and slid sideways into the northbound lane. The front of the Prism struck the passenger side of the Trailblazer. After impact, the Trailblazer went into an east ditch and rolled on the passenger side. The Prism remained in the northbound lane, facing north.
According to Marion County Sheriff Robert Craft, both Donald Chamberlain and Reiswig were transported to Newton Medical Center. Donald Chamberlain later was transported to a Wichita hospital.
A memorial service for Sharon Chamberlain is at 2 p.m. Thursday at First Missionary Church, Newton. A life sketch is in this edition of the newspaper.
