Hillsboro woman faces obstruction charges

Authorities have identified Hillsboro resident Yvette Collier, 55, as the person who was arrested on suspicion of interference with a law enforcement officer after a McPherson County fugitive was discovered hiding June 27 in the attic of her apartment.

“Brandon Smith’s escape was nothing dramatic — no tunneling, explosions, or anything like that,” Doug Anderson, investigations captain at McPherson County sheriff’s department, said. “He merely walked away from the hospital while in custody.”

Smith had evaded authorities for three days before until he turned up in Collier’s attic.

Collier bonded out June 28, Smith, who was arrested on aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and aggravated escape from custody charges, is still incarcerated.

Anderson could not confirm the nature of Collier and Smith’s relationship.
