Bill Robinson

Services for William “Bill” P. Robinson, 87, Florence, who passed away Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, at St. Luke Hospital in Marion, were at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, at Florence United Methodist Church.

Bill was laid to rest in Hillcrest Cemetery, Florence.

His family gathered with friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, 2021, at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Marion.

Bill’s life began Monday, Aug. 6, 1934, in Newton. His parents were Arthur J. and Mabel (Willey) Robinson.

A 1952 graduate of Florence High School, he was united in marriage July 9, 1955, to Beverly Lambert. She preceded him in death Sept. 1, 1989. Bill married the former Edna (Rothgeb) Rausch on Nov. 16, 1996, in Longton.

Bill was a cattleman and rancher on property that has been in his family since 1903.

In 1956, he and Bev moved to Chase County, where he worked for Crofoot Cattle Co. while Bev attended Kansas State Teachers College.

In 1964, they returned to the farm, where they raised their family.

A farmer and stockman while their children were growing up, he also worked in Newton, driving a truck and later serving as a dispatcher and manager at Kinder / Congoleum Furniture Manufacturing. The kids remember getting to go with him on a couple of short trips in the truck.

Bill was a member of Florence United Methodist Church and National Cattlemen’s Beef Association and a charter member of Kansas Livestock Association.

He enjoyed working with his feeder cattle and watching sports, especially Kansas State University basketball.

His great joy was his family, which includes his wife, Edna, of Florence; children Mark Robinson of Marion, Cheryl (and husband Don) Doty of Emporia, and Linda (and husband Greg) Carlson of Marion; grandchildren Sam (and wife Sharon) Doty, Carla (and husband Dave) Tharp, Jenni (and husband Bryce) Holbrook, Nick (and wife Ashley) Carlson, Melissa (and husband Jake) Smith, Beverly (and husband Kaleb) Knoettgen, and Cordell Robinson; great-grandchildren Jacob, Ryan, Claire, Justus, Makinna, Laekyn, Devin, Maisie, Ella, Millie, Evie and Chase; and siblings Edwin Robinson of Florence and Mary Ann (and husband Troy) Craig of Henderson, Texas.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Beverly, brother Claire, and granddaughter Mattie.
