Cate Hayen

Memorial services will be 2 p.m. Jan. 22 at First United Methodist Church in Topeka for Catherine “Cate” F. Hayen, 92, of Topeka, who passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at her home in Topeka.

She went to college at Westmar College in LeMars, Iowa, where she met a young Navy veteran from Marion. She married Leon Hayen on Aug. 17, 1948, at Maple Grove, Minnesota.

Leon is a retired United Methodist pastor. They lived all over Kansas before retiring in Topeka.

She was a member of United Methodist Women at all churches Leon pastored. Cate was a member of First United Methodist Church, Topeka. Cate volunteered for many organizations. She had many fond memories of time spent at Marion.

Cate is survived by her husband, Leon, Topeka; sons Robert and Scott; daughters Marlene and Janet; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; brother, Jim Thomas, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Downing, Marion, and Carmen Parrack, Plano, Texas; and brother-in-law Max Hayen, Marion.

Among those who preceded her in death are older brother, Dave Thomas; brother-in-law, John Hayen; sister-in-law, Marilyn (and husband Robert) Geis, all from the Marion area.

A private burial will be at the Grant Township Cemetery in rural Marion.

Memorial contributions may be made to Elara Hospice or the Arbor Court Retirement Home, and sent in care of the Davidson Funeral Home, 1035 N. Kansas Ave. Topeka KS 66608.
