Clara Kerns

Services for Clara C. Kerns, 83, Marion, who died Oct. 1 at Via Christi-St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, were Oct. 5 at Marion Christian Church.

She was born May 25, 1937, in Queens, New York, to Benjamin and Clara (Gravell) Hocknell.

She married the love of her life, Larry Kerns, on Dec. 30, 1955.

She is survived by daughters Sharon (and husband Jerry) Ewing of Marion, Marjorie (and husband Jerry) Tajchman of Marion; sons Van (and wife Janene) Kerns of Mustang, Oklahoma, and Michael (and wife Jodi) Kerns of Junction City; brother Tom Gravell; sister Terri Philleo of Las Vegas; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Clara lived in Marion 49 years. She was an active member of Marion Christian Church and helped with funeral dinners. She was active in the Christian Women’s Fellowship and made sure her children had a solid Christian upbringing.

She loved plants, sewing, and crafts. She loved to tell stories about her life.

She was preceded in death by husband Larry.
