Connie Omstead

Connie Sue Omstead, 72, Florence, was born May 4, 1947, in Iberia, Missouri.

She was the daughter of Lawrence and Dorothy Woolery Hudson.

Connie attended a few years of college after high school in preparation for her life as a caregiver in area nursing homes as a restorative aid, CNA, and medication aid. She worked at St. Joseph’s Convent in Wichita and for nursing homes in Peabody and Marion County.

Connie was united in marriage to William “Bill” Omstead on August 27, 1977, in Wichita. The couple owned a Sonic franchise in Scott City and the Kay Sandwich Shop in Wichita. Connie also worked as a para-professional for Peabody-Burns USD. She volunteered as a Cub Scout leader when her children were involved and did the cleaning at the Florence Christian Church for a time.

Everything that Connie did was an example of her caring and loving spirit for others. Her greatest joy was her family, which includes her children William Omstead, Jr., Randy and wife LeeAnn Omstead, Rusty and wife Vicki Omstead, all of Wichita; Howard and wife Cindy Omstead of Augusta; David and wife Windy Jackson of Van Buren, Arkansas; and Sharon Omstead-Box and husband Joe Box of Florence; 38 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; siblings Larry Joe Hudson, Randy and wife Mikayla Hudson, Richard Hudson, and Carol and husband Joe Cravens.

Connie passed away at her home on October 3, 2019. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Bill, and sister Joyce Paquette.

Her family will gather with friends at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2019, at Florence United Methodist Church for her memorial service.
