Ed Wheeler

Family gathered with friends at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 22, 2023, at Marion Presbyterian Church for a memorial service for Edwin M. Wheeler Jr., 72 Marion, who passed away suddenly on Dec. 18, 2023, in Marion.

After the service, he was laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.

Ed’s life began on Nov. 24, 1951, in Topeka as a son of Edwin M. Wheeler Sr. and Rosalie (Myers) Wheeler.

Ed received his juris doctorate degree from Washburn University in Topeka. He previously practiced law at Wheeler and Wheeler in Marion before becoming court trustee for the 8th Judicial District for 17 years, retiring in 2021.

Ed also served as Marion city attorney and Marion County attorney. He served on the Marion Food Bank board and was active in Marion Presbyterian Church leadership.

He was an avid bike rider and really enjoyed hiking in the mountains.

Ed loved being a grandfather and all the joy that brought.

He was united in marriage to Cheri Ochs on Feb. 14, 1991, at Marion Presbyterian Church.

His greatest joy was his family, including wife Cheri of Marion; children John Wheeler (and wife Megan) of Marion, Jason Wheeler (and wife Lori) of Marion, Zach Bauman (and Sarah Marten) of Kansas City, and Skylar Bauman of Wichita: grandchildren Morgan Wheeler (and wife Aubrey) of Marion, Corbin Wheeler (and wife Sarah) of Lenexa, Jori McCall of Wichita, and Burton Harshman of Fort Smith, Arkansas; great-grandson Wyatt Wheeler of Marion; brother Christopher Wheeler of Bethesda, Maryland; and niece Natalie Wheeler of Madison, Wisconsin.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Yazel-Megli Funeral Home is serving the family.
