Esther Groneman

Services for Esther Margreta Louise Groneman, 110, rural Lincolnville, who passed away Feb. 29, 2024, were 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 4, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Lincolnville.

She was born Dec. 18, 1913, in Lincolnville to Emil Krause and Augusta Schlesener Krause. She was baptized into the Christian faith Jan. 25, 1914, and confirmed April 29, 1928, at St. John’s.

She attended Bethel School, District 76 Grade School, and St. John’s Lutheran School through Grade 8.

She married Arthur August Henry Groneman on June 11, 1935, at St. John’s. She lived on their farm east of Lincolnville, helping her husband milk cows, combine wheat and pick corn by hand.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, sewing, and taking care of fruit trees. She had numerous flower beds and enjoyed growing irises, poppies, and flowers of all kinds.

Esther is survived by four children, Lois Ann Groneman, Lincolnville; Vida Mae Gianakon, Hutchinson; Arthur Wayne Groneman (and wife Kandi); and Nancy Nelson (and husband Steve), Lincolnville.

Also surviving are six grandchildren: Marie Gianakon, Hutchinson; Susan Dougan (and husband David), Stillwell; Tom Gianakon, Santa Fe, New Mexico; DeAnne Atkinson (and husband Jeff), Palestine, Texas; Karen Bassett, Midlothian, Virginia; and Mark Gianakon, Hutchinson; three step-grandchildren, Michael, Rick and Dawn Kohman; 11 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great grandchildren.

She also is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur, who died May 2, 1989, and her parents and three brothers, Martin, William, and Paul Krause, and six sisters, Bertha Otte, Otillie Albrecht, Marie Beneke, Lena Albrecht, Martha Brockmeier, and Augusta Ollenberger.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church, 220 W 6th St, Lincolnville KS 66858.
