Howard Williams
Services for former Marion resident Howard Lee Williams, 84, who went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, from Lou Gehrig’s disease, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Brush Hill Baptist Church in Checotah, Oklahoma. The service will be officiated by Pastor Thomas Chappelle.
Howard was born Feb. 28, 1937, in Lamar, Colorado, to Keith and Clara Williams. He graduated from Marion High School, where he played sports.
After graduating, he worked for Kansas Gas and Electric in Newton. As an adult, he joined the Air National Guard, serving as a cook. His patriotism and love of country only grew throughout his life and was apparent to all who knew him.
Howard married Beverly Irvin, and they had two children, Bill and Jennifer.
A talented mechanic, Howard worked for General Motors and John Deere as a service manager. After moving to Oklahoma in the 1980s, he started Snappy Lawn Service in 1986, which he proudly ran until his retirement in 2005.
Howard was an avid outdoorsman and sports fan who enjoyed traveling as well as restoring boats and working on cars. His unique talent was using parts from his dad’s salvage yard to build cars and drive them as a teenager.
His beloved wife of 25 years passed away in 1994 after battling cancer.
Love blessed him again when he met his significant other of 27 years, Linda Richardson. After retiring, the couple moved to Lake Eufaula, Oklahoma, to pursue their love of nature and boating. They also enjoyed traveling around the country and going to church.
Howard was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Don Williams; and his wife and mother of his children, Beverly.
He is survived by his significant other, Linda Richardson; his son, William “Bill” Williams of Huntsville, Texas; his daughter and her husband, Jennifer and Terry Trompeter of Moore, Oklahoma; his grandchildren, Chase Harris and John Trompeter of Moore, Oklahoma; Gracie and Kalyb Richardson of Moore, Oklahoma; Darby Potts of Divide, Colorado; and Cassidy Potts of Denton, Texas; and his great-grandson, Easton Trompeter of Moore, Oklahoma.
In lieu of flowers, Howard requested that donations be made to three charities of special significance to him and his family – the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and the Shriners Hospital.
The family is grateful for the outpouring of love, kindness, and support during and throughout this difficult time.
