Mass of Christian burial for John R. Griffith, 77, Marion, who passed away Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at St. Luke Hospital, Marion, will be celebrated by Father Isaac Coulter at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Marion.
A prayer vigil will be at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, and Rosary will be prayed at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the church.
John will be laid to rest in Griffith Cemetery, Cedar Point.
John’s life began June 29, 1945, in Wichita, when he was born to Newton and Laura (Armstrong) Griffith.
John was united in marriage to Mary Konarik on Aug. 16, 1969, at St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church in Pilsen.
He was employed as a sales representative for several area businesses, including Hillsboro Industries and Hallmark Cards. John also sold insurance, real estate, and farm equipment during his career.
He was a faithful parishioner of Holy Family Parish, Marion, where he served as a Eucharistic minister, lector, and usher and had been active in Knights of Columbus.
John had an amazing memory and a heart of gold. He volunteered his time to many worthwhile groups including Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon, and was an avid reader.
John had unconditional love for his family and friends. He enjoyed basketball and football from his earliest days at what’s now Emporia State University and the University of Kansas.
John is survived by his wife, Mary, of Marion; children John Griffith (and wife Jessica) of Emporia, Michelle Griffith of Tucson, and Bill Griffith (and wife Stephanie) of Fruita, Colorado; sister Michelle Siegfried of Topeka; and eight grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Memorial contributions in John’s name may be directed to the Griffith Cemetery Fund in care of the funeral home.
