Marilyn Knapp

The family of former Marion resident Marilyn Alice Knapp, 92, of McPherson, who passed away June 2, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, will gather with friends at 3 p.m. Thursday, June 9, 2022, at Grant Township Cemetery, east of Marion, for her graveside service.

Marilyn’s life began Aug. 30, 1929, in Wamego. Her parents were William Levi Fields and Alice M. (Thompson) Fields.

Marilyn was a graduate of J.P. Elder High School in Fort Worth, Texas.

She started at Glass Containers, now Anchor Glass, in Antioch, California, as a sweeper and retired after 30 years as a beloved supervisor for the Hot End.

She worked and contributed her time to the Glass, Molders, Pottery, Plastics and Allied Workers International Union.

Marilyn had been a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Marion for many years.

She made many friends and helped many more people in her life than can be said here. She always will be remembered fondly.

She spent her spare time gardening, playing cards and bingo, making quilts, fishing, and travelling.

Marilyn is survived by her grandchildren, Mary Bacon of Warrenton, Oregon; Chuck Kenney of Hillsboro; Josh Kenney of New Zealand; Jake Kenney of Wichita; Daniel Kenney of Kansas City, Kansas; Katrina Maltbie of Sacramento, California; Brian Briggs and Mike Purdue of Antioch, California; and Heather Tabor of Pennsylvania.

She was preceded in death by her parents; four children, Ellison Benfer, Randall Maltbie, Jimmie Maltbie, and Rita Maltbie; and one grandson, James Maltbie.

Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, Hillsboro, is serving the family with services and cremation.

Memorial contributions in her name may be directed to the Marion VFW in care of the funeral home.
