Opal Eileen Myers (Chambers)

Opal Eileen Myers (Chambers) was born May 1, 1922, near Williamsburg, and passed away Tuesday, at the age of 97 at Delmar Gardens in Lenexa.

She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Eileen was born on her parent’s farm north of Williamsburg, and graduated from Williamsburg High School in 1940.

She worked as the Chief Clerk for the Agricultural Association in Ottawa during the war. She married Donald Myers on Aug. 23, 1944. From this union she and Don raised their four boys. She loved being involved in her sons’ and grandchildren’s school activities, sporting events and especially designing and baking unique birthday cakes for family members.

Eileen, a Peabody resident for over 56 years, enjoyed bowling, playing cards, fishing and watching all sporting events. She took great joy in beating all-comers in Scrabble. She left the family with their history through her extensive genealogy research.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. June 22 at the First Christian Church in Peabody followed by internment at Peabody Cemetery. A reception at the American Legion Hall in Peabody is to be held after internment service.

Eileen is preceded in death by husband, Donald W. Myers, and parents William (Bill) and Eva Chambers.

She is survived by her sons Dick (Elsie) Myers of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Rod (Winona) Myers of Udall, James D. (Gail) Myers of Peabody, and Jere (Amy) Myers of Overland Park. Eileen leaves behind seven grandchildren: Ann Templeton; Lori Myers-Steele; Steve Myers; James D. Myers, Jr.; Joseph M. Myers; Deidra R. Walker; and Jeff B. Myers; nine great-grandchildren and twelve step great-grandchildren.

Eileen never met a stranger.
