Ruth Gantz

Ruth Louise (Peters) Gantz’s life began on June 6, 1925.

The daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (Schranz) Peters in Chicago, Illinois, she graduated from Blue Island, Illinois High School’s Class of 1942 and married Almus “Al” Richard Gantz on Aug. 9, 1947, in Oaklawn, Illinois.

She was a homemaker and attended Eastmoor United Methodist Church in Marion.

She loved Kansas State University sports and played basketball in high school.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, embroidery, and handwork.

Her loving family includes husband Al of Marion; children Barbara Doyle of Richardson, Texas, Howard Gantz (Donna) of Kingman, and Alice Martin (Tom Holtgrew) of Bonner Springs; grandchildren Brian Doyle (Amy), Stephen Doyle (Angela Capio), David Gantz (Brittany Lagemann), Krystal Gantz-Fensky (Travis Fensky), Geoffrey Martin (Angie Flax), and Andrea Martin; and great-grandchildren Rose, Stella, Max, Bella, Benjamin, and Lois.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and sisters Jean Claussen and LaVerne Albrecht.

Ruth passed away peacefully Feb. 6 at age 94.

Ruth’s family gathered with friends 10 to 11 a.m. Feb. 11.

Her funeral service followed at 11 a.m. both at Yazel-Megli Funeral Home, 205 Elm St. in Marion.

She was then laid to rest in Marion Cemetery.
