Inman 65, Goessel 39

Inman drove aggressively to the basket from the opening tip Friday night, getting high percentage shots to drop and jumped out to a 10-2 lead. Early season mistakes hampered the Bluebirds’ chances to catch up as the Teutons led at the end of the first quarter, 18-7. Nic Buller excited the Goessel crowd with back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter, but Inman continued to extend their lead finishing the first half ahead, 29-15.

John Berkholz knocked down a 3-pointer to open the scoring in the second half, but Inman took advantage of Bluebird turnovers to go on a 19-4 scoring rampage to take a 48-22 lead. Trey Schmidt, Nic Buller, and Davis Cook scored the last six points of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 20 points.

Inman stayed in control in the fourth quarter, stretching the lead to a final score of 65-39. Goessel committed 20 turnovers and shot a disappointing 31 percent from the field for the first game of the season.

Scoring for the Bluebirds were Cook, 13; Nic Buller, 10; Neal Brubaker, 4 points and 2 steals; Trey Schmidt, 4 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals; Berkholz, 3 points and 7 rebounds; Jake Smucker 2, Shane Goerzen, 2; Corey Buller, 1 point, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

Goessel boys will host the Bluebird Classic this week. They played Central Christian Tuesday night and will play Burrton at 8:30 p.m. Friday. The times and opponent on Saturday will be determined by wins and losses during the week.
