Irene Beames

Retired Herington Duckwall store and Avon salesperson Irene M. Beames, 82, Ramona, died Thursday at Village Manor, Abilene.

Services were Tuesday at Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home, Herington. Burial was in St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery, White City.

Born Jan. 13, 1933, to Leo and Frances (Koepsel) Engle in White City, she married Robert Beames on April 17, 1974, in Abilene. He died in 1994. Also preceding her in death were a sister, Lucille Johnson, and a 3-year-old brother, Lloyd Engle.

Survivors include her son, Rusty Beames of Herington; stepdaughter, Kimberly Porno of Preston, Connecticut; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

The family has suggested memorials to her grandchildren’s college fund in care of the funeral home, 404 S. Broadway, Herington KS 67449-3038.
