It's Shaw good to be at home

Trojans thrower is tops in shot, second in discus

Hillsboro’s Wes Shaw struck gold Friday at Wiens Stadium, using a near-record throw to win the shot put in the annual James Thomas Invitational track meet.

Shaw also picked up points with a second-place showing in discus and fifth place in javelin.

The 17-team field provided plenty of stiff competition, shutting Hillsboro out of any other golds.

The Trojans got three solid performances in the field from Kaden Ward, who took third in high jump and long jump and placed fourth in pole vault.

Jonathan Hinerman finished just out of the points in the 800 meters, but placed fourth in the 1600.

Fifth-place finishes went to Travis King in the 100 and 200, Brodie Rathbone in long jump, and the 4x400 relay team of Rathbone, King, Hinerman, and Garret Funk.

Raymond Johnston came through with a tie for sixth in pole vault.

Sienna Kaufman led the way for the girls, claiming second in both pole vault and long jump.

The 4x800 relay team of Tiffany Schale, Brittany Schale, Savannah Unruh, and Abby Sechrist took third.

Others finishing in the points for the Trojans included Sechrist, fourth in the 800; Eva Franz, sixth in the 400; Addie Berens, sixth in long jump; and Brooklyn Wiens, sixth in discus.
