J. Frank Rhodes Jr.

J. Frank Rhodes Jr., 91, of Topeka died Friday.

He was born April 9, 1921, in Abilene to J. Frank and Beatrice Sword Rhodes. He moved to Tampa at the age of 2.

He graduated from Tampa High School and the Kemper Military Academy in Booneville, Mo. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and received two Purple Hearts for his service in World War II.

After his service, he worked at Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Topeka, and then sold life insurance. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church.

On Sept. 6, 1946, he married Helen Kleiber at Durham Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Helen; three daughters, Susan Boeh of Troy, Jennifer Lee of Topeka, and Nancy Tillman of Topeka; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Rhodes and Grayce Dahlinger; and one brother, John Rhodes.

Memorial services were Tuesday at Trinity Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Penwell-Gabel Cemetery in Topeka.

Memorial funds have been established for Topeka Rescue Mission, 600 N. Kansas Ave., Topeka KS 66608 and Trinity Presbyterian Church, 4746 SW 21st St., Topeka KS 66604.
