Jackie Freeborn

Services for Jackie Dean Freeborn, 73, who died Thursday in Wichita after a stroke, were Sunday at his farm southwest of Florence.

He was cremated. His remains were scattered on his land with his beloved horses.

Born March 29, 1949, to Ellis and Fronie (Scobee) Freeborn, he graduated from Florence High School in 1967 and served in the U.S. Army.

He worked for Countryside Feed, the Kansas Department of Transportation, and Doyle Creek Ranch.

He first married Mary Spencer. To this union, his son Chad Freeborn was born. On July 11, 1982, he married Connie Lee Koop. Her son, Chris Koop, and their son, Chase Freeborn, completed their blended family.

Survivors include wife Connie of Florence; sons Chad Freeborn of Phoenix City, Alabama, and Chris Koop and Chase Freeborn, both of McPherson; sisters Mary Lee Wineinger of Chanute and Ruth Hodges of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and four grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established in care of Jost Funeral Home, Hillsboro.
