About 20 people have volunteered to serve on a committee to create a proposal for a new jail and dispatch for Marion County, Sheriff Rob Craft said Monday at Marion County Commission.
People interested in being on the committee need to call the sheriff’s office no later than Friday, he said. The committee will include about 12 members representing law enforcement, business, and private individuals.
In other business:
- Jailer Clinton Jeffrey resigned to take a full-time position with the Marion Police Department, Craft said.
- Marion County Commission will send letters to adjoining landowners about its intent to close 180th Road between Kanza and Limestone. The commission previously voted to close the road, but were informed they needed to make it a resolution with publication, notification to landowners, and a viewing.
- Marion County Courthouse may get a divided, weatherproof, lockable mailbox. County Clerk Carol Maggard said a mailbox would cost about $1,300 to install, but the county spends between $800 and $900 per year on P.O. boxes.
- Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro won a bid for 4,000 gallons of diesel in one tank, 1,000 gallons in another, and 2,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline in a third tank. The company’s bid was $10,209. Cardie Oil of Tampa bid $10,514.
- Road and Bridge Superintendent John Summerville received a $50 per month raise, from $3,432 to $3,482, for serving in his position for six months. He had previously served as interim road and bridge superintendent.
- Storm spotter training will be at 6:30 p.m. March 25 at USD 408 Performing Arts Center in Marion. It will be open to the public.
- Commission met in closed session for five minutes to discuss personnel. No action was taken on return to open session.
- Noxious Weed Director Rollin Schmidt rebid bids for herbicides because a winning bid included the wrong product. Markley Service of Marion won the bid for 128 16-ounce containers of Escort XP, 128 eight-ounce containers of Escort XP, four quarts of Milestone, 40 pounds of Sahara DG, and 60 gallons of Surfactant with a bid $3,371. Ag Service bid $3,499; Cooperative Grain and Supply of Hillsboro, $4,226; and Agri Producers of Tampa, $4,226.
