To the editor:
The Thomases raised some very good questions regarding the new jail and I’d like to add more.
1. Does Tabor College pay $10 per month in total or does each student see an increase of $10 per month? Or are they exempt?
2. Will there be any relief for folks under the poverty level?
3. How would this “fee” be collected? It would be simple with folks who get a utility bill, but how would it work with rural residents?
4. Where is the new jail going to be located? We need to be practical. Our old courthouse is not going to stand forever. And it would be stupid to have our new jail located 9 or 10 miles from our new courthouse.
In my humble opinion, the only reasonable thing to do is plan for an entire new courthouse. And where will it be?
Let the squabbling begin.
