Edwin and Mary Jane Janzen will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary Oct. 19.
They were married Oct. 19, 1941, by Rev. P.H. Unruh at Alexanderwohl Mennonite Church at Goessel.
The couple has five children: Don, John, Carol, Kay, and Bonita, eight grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
Ed farmed for 50 years near Elbing and also worked at the American Coach Company for 10 years. He enjoyed making furniture for family and friends. He also enjoyed singing in choirs, playing his guitar, and helping anyone in need.
Mary Jane also excelled in music. In addition, she maintained flower gardens and enjoyed cooking, including 10 years as the head cook at Elbing Grade School.
The Janzens have traveled extensively in the U.S., including Hawaii and Alaska, and to Europe, South America, Australia, and New Zealand.
Friends and family are invited to join in celebrating this happy occasion by attending an open house from 2 to 4 p.m. Oct. 16 at the community room at Kidron-Bethel, 3001 N. Ivy, N. Newton, where the couple now lives.
It is requested there be no gifts.
